HOW IT ALL STARTED

Etta Grover grew up in a town called Kingston in the Hudson Valley region of New York. She was encouraged by her father to start taking classes at the New York Conservatory for the Arts, where he was a piano teacher. Even though she didn't start acting until middle school, she did have the entire script of the Wizard of Oz memorized at age 4, which she then would perform to anyone who would listen. She started acting classes in 6th grade and fell in love with the feeling of belonging that she experienced there. As a kid, she loved having as many extracurricular passions as possible. She filled her time outside of school with horseback riding, dog agility, soccer, art, and frequent trips to the bookstore or library. Theater quickly took over and that led to rehearsals, dance and acting classes, and voice lessons after school. She was fortunate enough to take my senior year of high school at Bard College, where she was able to take classes like "Atlantic Slave Societies" and "The Making of the Modern Middle East". She later would go on to Rider University
to study musical theatre and obtain her BFA.

Etta recently played Nicola in Kinky Boots at Theatre by the Sea. Next up you can catch her reprising her role in Kinky Boots at North Shore Music Theatre. Tickets can be purchased here.

Now a New York City resident, Etta received her BFA from Rider University in 2020.

She Loves the Work

A multi-hyphenate artist, Etta is most fulfilled when she is working on a role and studying a character in both her acting and modeling. She loves to journal and get inside the head of the character. She is most inspired by artists that can completely transform from role to role. She hopes to one day cultivate the type of range that actors like Tilda Swinton and Viola Davis have shown in their work. Her biggest goal is to be involved in new works and share new stories.

Etta’s favorite acting roles include Sheila in A Chorus Line, Ariel Moore in Footloose, and Magenta in The Rocky Horror Picture Show. As a model, some of her favorite shoots have been those with up-and-coming photographers from the New York area.
